LORD WAKEFIELD - HYTHE'S GREATEST BENEFACTOR



Hythe Civic Society marked the anniversary of Lord Wakefield's death in 1941 by laying a simple plaque and some flowers in a short ceremony today, 15 January2023, in Spring Lane Cemetery.

Lord Wakefield first came to Hythe in 1912 and built himself a mansion on Blackhouse Hill that was later called Bassett House. In 1930 he was made a Freeman of Hythe. During WWll Bassett House was used as a hospital.
