Hythe Civic Society updates tourist maps!

Hythe Civic Society is delighted to announce the installation of two revised tourist information maps at Twiss Fort and Battery Point car parks.

The original maps, installed in 2014, were positioned facing south, and years of exposure to strong sunlight and sea air had caused the vinyl surfaces to deteriorate significantly, making them increasingly difficult to read.

Thanks to Ward Budget Grants from District Councillors Jim Martin, Elaine Martin and John Wing, the maps have been completely updated to include a wealth of new information, including EV charging points, defibrillator locations and additional QR codes linking to useful visitor information. To improve durability, the new graphics have been permanently baked onto aluminium panels, making them far more resistant to the effects of the weather.

Since their original installation, the maps – along with those in nine other locations around the town - have proved invaluable to both visitors and residents. As Hythe offers three distinct attractions—the seafront, the historic town centre and the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway—the maps provide an easy, at-a-glance overview of the town, helping visitors plan their day and make the most of everything Hythe has to offer.

Sally Chesters, Hythe Civic Society Committee Member and Project Leader, said:

"The Society has been concerned about the condition of these two maps for some time, so it is a great relief to have been able to update them and restore them as a valuable resource for residents and visitors alike. This time, the new aluminium panels will also be much better able to withstand the effects of the weather. SDB Rutt Design Group has done an excellent job incorporating all the new information, and the finished maps look superb. We are extremely grateful to District Councillors Jim Martin, Elaine Martin and John Wing for their generous support through their Ward Budget Grants, which has made this project possible."
