Hollyhocks

For a number of years, the residents of Church Hill and the Society had tried to persuade SDC to cease spraying the hollyhocks in Church Hill with weed killer. Finally, after several false starts, they agreed, and since then the Society has ensured that these beautiful flowers continue to thrive on the hill. Every year the area is weeded by volunteers to allow the plants space and, at the end of the season, the seeds are spread liberally around to ensure there are plenty of new plants the following year.

Church Hill is an historic and much-visited route for visitors to Hythe and the hollyhocks enhance its appearance tremendously. After all...., Hollyhocks ARE Hythe!
