Last Saturday 21st June in the evening some 130 Hythe residents came together in St Leonard's church to hear an illustrated talk by Andy McConnell, the Antiques Roadshow glass expert, on Rene Lalique.
After the cheque presentations Andy talked about his life and the Antiques Roadshow, answered questions and undertook some glass appraisals (of course!). Andy's time, generously given free. and the equal generosity of those attending enabled two donations of £700 each to be made to the Hythe Pantry and to the Hythe Salvation Army Food Bank.
The great photographs were taken by Stewart Weller- Hythe and District Photographic Club.
The next event to celebrate the Civic Society's 80th anniversary year will take place in the afternoon of Friday 25 July with a cream tea at St Leonard's church and will include a tour of the church and an opportunity to visit the bell-ringing chamber and the parvise.
