I’m currently researching my family tree, and whilst I understood my maternal grandmother Florence (Topsy) Collyer was born in the Tower on Hythe seafront, as confirmed by her birth certificate.
She was born in 1893 with Tower 13 listed as her place of birth and her mothers residence.
From all I can find online, Tower 13 was Ministry of Defence property until it was sold in 1928 and converted to a dwelling, with no evidence yet of her father having military connections it begs the question what were they doing there.
Does anyone know what the Tower was used for around this time?
